Who are The Upstarts?
Dan on guitar and vocals, AKA Dan the Man, Rhino
Steve on bass and vocals, AKA Steve
Maltman on drums and “percussion”, AKA Malty, Dr S.K. Maltman
Dave on cornet and backing vocals, AKA Daveladocus
What are The Upstarts?
Melodic? Thrashy? Ska? Punk? Many different things but lets get something clear, we’re definitely a band and we do not make board games. We’ve supported the likes of Voodoo Glow Skulls, RX Bandits, The Beat, Capdown and many more.
Where are the Upstarts?
Lets get metaphysical, we’re everywhere!! Originally from Elgin (smalltownsville, Scotland), then Aberdeen and now a bit of both. However hoping to be wherever you are: last year a Scottish tour; this year a 6-week 35-date extravaganza (Ireland, Shetland, all of Scotland, England and Wales – check the Gigs section for more details)
Why?
Well we love playing live shows, we love to make people dance and have a good night. We’re also interested in making people think about some social and political issues that we care about and our lyrics reflect this. We don’t care about money, scenes or recognition; we just want to meet new people, see new places and play as much as possible.
When?
November 2001 – present. 5 year anniversary this year, woohoo
